A recent CHAMP publication was published in Milbank Quarterly describing exnovation in a longitudinal cohort of physician organizations.
Lead author and CHAMP Co-Director Hector Rodriguez highlights:
“Empirical research on organizational change in health care primarily focuses on adoption of innovations, but little attention has been devoted to their removal. Exnovation is the process of removal of innovations that do not improve organizational performance, are too disruptive to routine operations, or do not fit well with the existing organizational strategy, incentives, structure and/or culture. Our study results highlight that some exnovation may be needed to improve the capacity of organizations to integrate new innovations with better fit and effectiveness.”
